Partner, Head of Singapore
Construction and project arbitration across Southeast Asia, and the contract drafting that prevents it.
Wei-Lin Tan opened the firm's Singapore office in 2011 and has led it since. Her practice is construction and energy project disputes — delay and disruption claims, termination, and the arbitrations that follow when a project of several years' duration stops producing agreement about what was promised.
She also does a substantial amount of work that is not litigation at all: reviewing the dispute resolution machinery in contracts before they are signed, on behalf of clients who have been through one arbitration and would prefer not to repeat the experience. She is candid that this is the less profitable half of her practice and the more useful one.
Before joining the firm she practiced for eleven years in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, and spent two years seconded to the legal team of a regional transmission operator.
